Monrovia, Liberia – June 16, 2026: Three nominees of the Liberia National Tourism Authority appeared before the Senate Committee on Information, Culture and Tourism for a joint confirmation hearing, presenting a coordinated vision to advance Liberia’s tourism, culture, and creative economy sectors.

The nominees were Mrs. Jani Jallah Kollie, Deputy Director General-designate for Marketing, Communication and Promotion; Mr. Melvin Nye, Deputy Director General-designate for Finance and Corporate Services; and Mr. Stevenson T. Seidi, Deputy Director General-designate for Culture and Heritage.

During the hearing, the nominees outlined separate but interconnected plans aimed at strengthening the institutional foundation of the Liberia National Tourism Authority and positioning tourism as a serious contributor to national development. Their presentations focused on key areas including destination marketing, financial accountability, investment promotion, cultural preservation, heritage development, and community-based tourism.

Mrs. Kollie, speaking on marketing, communication, and promotion, emphasized the need for Liberia to tell its own story through a clear and compelling national tourism brand. She highlighted the importance of digital campaigns, media engagement, domestic tourism awareness, and international visibility in changing outdated perceptions of Liberia. According to her vision, Liberia’s beaches, rainforest, historic sites, culture, and hospitality must be promoted through consistent messaging that presents the country as a competitive and attractive destination.

Mr. Nye focused on the financial and corporate services framework needed to sustain the Authority’s work. He stressed the importance of transparent financial systems, strong internal controls, resource mobilization, staff capacity building, and public-private partnerships. His presentation underscored that tourism development requires not only promotion, but also sound financial management and credible systems that can attract investment and build public trust.

Mr. Seidi presented the culture and heritage component of the Authority’s work, emphasizing that Liberia’s history and cultural identity must remain central to tourism development. He spoke about the need to preserve historical landmarks, strengthen cultural programming, support creative enterprises, and develop national events that showcase Liberia’s traditions, arts, music, food, and heritage. His vision placed strong emphasis on making culture a living part of Liberia’s tourism product.

Together, the nominees demonstrated a shared understanding that tourism cannot be developed in isolation. They noted that the sector requires coordination across government, private sector actors, local communities, cultural institutions, and development partners. Their presentations also stressed the importance of ensuring that tourism benefits extend beyond Monrovia to rural communities, where many of Liberia’s natural and cultural attractions are located.

The hearing reflected a renewed national focus on tourism as a tool for job creation, revenue generation, cultural preservation, and international image-building. It also showed the importance of the Liberia National Tourism Authority in leading a more structured and strategic approach to developing the sector.

As the Committee on Information, Culture and Tourism considers the nominees, the joint appearance signaled a strong commitment to operationalizing the Authority and advancing Liberia’s place on the global tourism map. The nominees’ combined vision presented tourism not merely as travel and leisure, but as a pathway for national renewal, economic diversification, and cultural pride.
